iPhone SIM Unlock Card: I’m Skeptical [Hardware Unlock]

iPhone SIM Unlock Card: I’m Skeptical [Hardware Unlock]
This new device from Brando claims to have the ability to unlock your iPhone on the SIM level by attaching to the card. It will work with any firmware, but keep in mind that activation is required. So, v1.1.2 is a go, but not v1.1.3 (just yet). Plus, it is a good deal at only $30. Additional pic after the break. Best Buy stops selling the 80GB PS3

Best Buy stops selling the 80GB PS3
Posted Jan 25th 2008 5:33PM by Nilay PatelFiled under: Gaming Well that was fast — just a day after we’d heard that Best Buy was dropping the 80GB PS3 SKU, it’s gone from the retailer’s web site. We aren’t sure what this means for the broader US market — several other stores are still selling the 80GB model — but for now, it looks like customers of the Blue will have to get their PS2 fix from actual PS2s.[Thanks, Rob]Tags: equipment, pvr, gear, hi fi (Read the full post about ‘Best Buy stops selling the 80GB PS3′…)

Chair Wardrobe

Chair Wardrobe
Now here’s a good idea — a chair that doubles as a wardrobe! Handy for small NY or Japanese apartments and a great place to hang your coat at a restaurant. Designed by Erohina Yulia, it was a reddot Design winner last year so let’s hope it makes it out of the concept stage. via I New Idea. Beyond HD: Hi-Vision with 7680×4320 pixels

Beyond HD: Hi-Vision with 7680×4320 pixels
Japan’s national broadcasting company, NHK, is looking to have Hi-Vision (also called Ultra-HDTV) ready by 2025. It is currently intended to be used only for large screens of 60-inches or above. Hi-Vision has a resolution of 7680×4320, which is exactly 16 times more pixels than current 1920×1080 HDTV videos. It is being tested by NHK on a 500” display with a 22.2 surround sound system, the only one in its class. NHK believes that such an extreme resolution is “too much” for living rooms. “Watching fast-moving images at close quarters could “make people feel sick” says Masuru Kanazawa, a research engineer at NHK [via BBC]. Everex delays the Cloudbook

Everex delays the Cloudbook
Those customers that were eager to get their hands on the Everex Cloudbook will have to wait just a bit longer than originally expected. The delay comes just a few weeks after the official announcement and unveiling at the Consumer Electronics Show. The Cloudbook was supposed to hit Wal-Mart on January 25, however it seems that customers will have to wait “for another month or so.” The delay is being blamed on the software, which according to Everex’s director of marketing, Paul Kim, still needed “a couple of last-minute software tweaks.” While its nice to see a company hold back a product that is not ready, its another thing to release the statement on the day it was supposed to be in-stores. Everex’s Cloudbook postponed for “tweaks”

Everex’s Cloudbook postponed for “tweaks”
Posted Jan 25th 2008 1:02PM by Joshua TopolskyFiled under: Laptops Remember how we told you Everex’s little gOS-sporting Cloudbook was headed to Wal-Mart this month (today, to be specific)? Well hold your check book, friend-o — they ain’t done with it. According to the company’s director of marketing, Paul Kim, the system requires, “A couple of last minute software tweaks,” before it’s ready for prime-time. There’s no word on when it will make an appearance, though we’re inclined to think this won’t be a major delay, though you never know. Bill Gates Gives Away $306 Million, Goes Green Acres [Charity]

Bill Gates Gives Away $306 Million, Goes Green Acres [Charity]
Apparently money has burned quite the hole in Bill Gates’ philanthropic pocket, as during this week’s World Economic Forum in Switzerland, Gates pledged $306 million in grants to fund farming in in poor/developing countries through the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. To the audience he said: If we are serious about ending extreme hunger and poverty around the world, we must be serious about transforming agriculture for small farmers, most of whom are women…The challenge here is to design a system including profit and recognition to do more for the poor.I dunno, Apple. The way things have been going lately, maybe that giant head* on the big screen wasn’t to be feared after all. Review: Sony VAIO TZ Notebook

Review: Sony VAIO TZ Notebook
In Steve Jobs’ MacWorld 2008 keynote, when he unveiled the new MacBook Air, he referred to another notebook a number of times. When he needed a model notebook for high-end portability Jobs chose Sony’s TZ above all others. He, of course, had a number of reasons for choosing the TZ, but he did so in part because it is slim, lightweight, and beautifully designed. It is also quite expensive, which distinguishes it as an “executive” notebook and made the Air seem that much more affordable despite its comparatively limited feature set. The Sony VAIO TZ is not only Sony’s flagship ultraportable notebook, but it is also the notebook that most other companies are gunning for with their high-end sub-3lb models. Dancing Keepon Robot Teaches Author How To Love [Robots]

Remember cute Keepon, the little robot that’s part Muppet, part dancing dynamo? He’s back, teaching Daniel H. Wilson, author of How To Build a Robot Army, how to stop worrying and embrace cybernetics. Now that Wilson and Keepon are friends, we’re imagining the undefeatable army of Keepons that will result: every opponent would compulsively drop his weapon and start to disco gently on the spot.

Gadgetell Rant: iPod Docks will start WWIII
