SupportSpace
I visited SupportSpace booth yesterday and I saw a demo of the service. I like it a lot. It could be a great replacement of traditional phone based Tech support. Directly on the home page users can see the experts profiles, rates and ranking. Once the user has selected an expert to help to troubleshoot her/his computer, a chat session is engaged with the expert. (Read the full post about ‘DEMO 08 - At your service session’…)

Back in May 2006, Jason Hughes, formerly of Naughty Dog, set about creating his own studio in Austin, Texas. In May 2007, that studio became an incorporated entity, and now it has been named Steel Penny Games.
The newly named studio announced its acceptance as a Nintendo’s WiiWare developer and development on its first game, called Bruiser & Scratch in Case of the Puzzlin Paw. The game is set for release in mid-2008 and blends puzzle gameplay and a fantasy setting with the key characters of a dog and cat.
Steel Penny Games is a mass-market casual game developer, so expect its first game to be something that appeals to everyone and takes full advantage of the Wii motion control system.

Looks like many are attempting to “stick it the man”. In this case, the man is car manufacturers who continued to sell and install analog OnStar units in vehicles despite being aware of an FCC ruling that would render the devices useless in the very near future (Feb 18 2008 looks to be the date analog dies). With no options for a complimentary upgrade or heck, even a paid upgrade, OnStar owners are understandably furious. “It is outrageous” “I think this is a complete scam!” It seems many customers bought their vehicle with the expectation the system would last at least as long as the car does. Not to be the case thanks to the FCC’s ruling that allows cell carriers to drop analog compatibility. For many, it was the tipping point of buying that particular make and model. Posted Jan 30th 2008 8:24AM by Thomas RickerFiled under: Cellphones, GPS, Handhelds In case you missed it, the biggest trend in GPS navigators at the moment is real-time, two-way data feeds for traffic updates. There’s the Dash Express of course, and TomTom’s ONE XL HD Traffic GPS navigator with real-time traffic feeds provided over Vodafone’s GSM network. Now Mio is looking for a piece of that action with some help from Qualcomm. The collaboration brings Qualcomm’s QST1100 chipset to the mix for real-time traffic updates (presumably two-way, or why bother), voice calling, search, and the always intriguing, “more.” Details on the chipset are few. Marvel and EA, two of the biggest names in comics and videogames, have decided to end a deal that saw EA creating multiple games based on Marvel intellectual property.
The deal was originally done back in 2004, but since then has only seen one game released, Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imprefects. A further fighting game in development died with the closure of EA Chicago last year. Speaking of the decision an EA representative said:
EA and Marvel have jointly agreed to discontinue development of the Marvel titles under the EA Games Label.

Posted Jan 30th 2008 12:13PM by Darren MurphFiled under: Desktops, Laptops Just as we feared, Dell will indeed be axing 100-percent of its US mall kiosks — 140 in total. Unsurprisingly, the official word attributes the move to Dell’s shift into big box retail stores, but we’re sure that’s not the least bit consoling to the fine folks who were pushing Round Rock’s machines to mall-goers just yesterday. According to Tony Weiss, vice president for Dell’s Global Consumer business, the move “fits in with how its broad global retail strategy is evolving,” and for whatever it’s worth, kiosks outside of US borders are still safe for now. You may still be getting a Dell, but dude, it won’t be from the mall.[Image courtesy (Read the full post about ‘It’s a done deal: Dell puts an end to all 140 US mall kiosks’…)

Posted Jan 30th 2008 11:23AM by Darren MurphFiled under: Laptops Dubbed “the best-looking 20-inch laptop on the market” by PC Mag, HP’s monolithic HDX-9000 was recently hoisted onto the test bench and put through a number of paces to see if it really was worth the fortunes it demands. The stunning 1080p display and LED-backlit keyboard were both highly praised, and while one wouldn’t expect a 15-pound rig to excel in the battery life department, it did manage to stay alive for 2.5 hours on a full charge. Unfortunately, the crew was a bit disappointed by the Penryn’s performance, but to be fair, it did play back Blu-ray Discs beautifully and handled most everything that was thrown at it with ease.
