Eye-Fi SD card now with Smart Boost
Eye-Fi has announced a new, and soon to be available update for the Eye-Fi SD Card called Smart Boost. According to Eye-Fi the update will make the card “more efficient and improve the upload experience.” The Smart Boost update will allow the card to know when the users computer is turned off or on, and if the computer is on and in range the pics will be automatically transfered to the computer over Wi-Fi. If the computer is not on, the pics will be uploaded to the web-based Eye-Fi service, again using the available Wi-Fi connection. When the pics are uploaded to the Eye-Fi service they will then be transfered to the users pre-chosen photo site such as Flickr, Picasa or Windows Live and also be transfered to the users computer when it is turned back on.
The Smart Boost update will be available by February 12, 2008 and will be a free upgrade for current users, new cards will have the Smart Boost feature already installed.
In addition to the Smart Boost update, Eye-Fi has also announced that you will now be able to purchase the Eye-Fi SD card at Ritz Camera and also upload pics to RitzPix. The Eye-Fi card retails for $99.99.
