Never in my life have I seen the same computing product get more hardware changes than software updates. Yes, I’m talking about Sony’s Playstation 3, a product that is now starting on what can only be described as its third major retail beta program… with a fourth supposedly in the works. According to an Engadget report, Gamestop has done everything but dole out the ISBN numbers on the packaging for the still unconfirmed 120GB Playstation 3. Was 80GB too small for their top tier PS3? No, of course not. It was too small to also be bundled with the new DualShock 3 controller… the controller that should have been bundled with all PS3 models to begin with. With the white version of the HTC Touch hot off the presses from last week’s announcement of the device for Verizon Wireless, it would seem as though Canadian mobile-teers are about the get the their own version of the white Touch. Bell Canada has managed to grab a hold, and release the device even earlier than Verizon. The EV-DO support of the Touch will allow Bell users to take advantage of their high speed internet access. Posted Feb 1st 2008 8:51PM by Nilay PatelFiled under: Gaming We’re chalking this up to mixed PR signals, but a spokesperson for PDP — makers of that Rock Band Premium Microphone we caught the other day sporting a Wii logo — just let us know it was an accident, and that the mic isn’t compatible with the Wii after all. Of course, the only reason we cared is that the logo signaled the arrival of Rock Band on the Wii — which we now know is happening anyway — so the only people disappointed here should be those of you who wanted to experience Wii Rock Band with “premium” third-party accessories. So… too bad for three of you. We regret your loss. Now if you’ll excuse us, we have to get back to mastering the dru (Read the full post about ‘Wii coming to Rock Band, Rock Band Premium Microphone not coming to Wii’…)

Sony has just rolled out a new 40-inch LCD full HDTV to the market, and it has already appeared on their official website. The Sony KDL-40D3500 is from their Bravia D range, and this appears to be an upgraded model sporting the new Bravia D3500 model number, making it an upgrade from the Sony KDL40D3000. This new Sony Bravia KDL40D3500 has a large 40-inch LCD screen with a full hd (1080p) resolution providing a total of 6.2 mega pixels for the highest quality images. From what we can see, this new D3500 model improves over the D3000 with the addition of Sony’s Bravia Engine which enhances image clarity, colours and definition, and also Live Color Creation to boost colours and contrast. Posted Feb 2nd 2008 12:50AM by Darren MurphFiled under: TransportationWe’re not exactly sure what to make of this one — the auto maker created to show up gas guzzlers and prove that electric whips could indeed prove viable in a society helplessly addicted to gasoline is apparently gearing up to turn a blind eye to its original mantra. According to a report over at CNET, the firm is planning to unveil not one, but two editions of its forthcoming Whitestar sedan. Although one will indeed cruise sans fuel, the other will be a gas-electric REV (range extended vehicle), purportedly designed to entice buyers who would typically be concerned about the range (or the lack thereof) of a purely electric vehicle. If a company is seriously trying to improve their recycling program after years of neglect, can you still call them out for the unfairness of their business model? Yes, you can. According to HP, it will begin to use recycled plastic to create most of their line of printer ink cartridges, where 70 to 100% of each cartridge will be made from the recycled material. That is a nice start. But as we noted in this month’s Wired mag and in the blog, the fact that there are 3,500 varieties of ink because of upgrade tactics and few cheap, safe ways to refill them means that this and other companies need to go beyond recycling to really be called green. Posted Feb 1st 2008 6:42PM by Nilay PatelFiled under: Portable Audio, Portable Video It’s been slowly spreading from one retailer to another today, but it looks like the Zune 8 is now officially just $179. No word on what spurred the $20 price drop — hey, Microsoft is feeling rather generous today — but if you were looking for 8GBs of the social, now seems like as good a time as any. Just don’t spend the coin you save on a tattoo, okay? We’ll cry.[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]Tags: Ogg Vorbis, game, dvr, video (Read the full post about ‘8GB Zune now $179′…)
