Didj - New gaming system for kids

Didj - New gaming system for kids
Leading up to the Toy Fair in NY coming up later this month, and we got a tip on a new Leapfrog gaming/learning system called the Didj. The popular Leapster, which my little tester calls her “Frog GameBoy,” is too young for the 6-10 year old demo, which this new handheld will target with more advanced graphics and challenging games. Leapster parents will like that the Didj is also a clever learning tool, as with all Leapfrog products. Look for it to debut this summer for approx $90. More details once we get one to play with. XPS M1330 BIOS update hints at upcoming Blu-ray / DVD combo drive
Posted Feb 7th 2008 1:01PM by Nilay PatelFiled under: LaptopsThe last Dells we saw with a slot-loading Blu-ray drive were the XPS One and monster XPS M2010, but it looks like Round Rock’s taking it mainstream soon — the latest BIOS update for the popular XPS M1330 lists support for an unspecified “Blu-ray / DVD +/- RW Combo Drive.” No word on when we’ll see these actually for order, but if you were in the market for an M1330, you might consider holding off until these become available.[Thanks, Rupert]Tags: sat-nav, cool gear, pvp, consumer electronics (Read the full post about ‘XPS M1330 BIOS update hints at upcoming Blu-ray / DVD combo drive’…)

Squeezebox Duet now available for pre-order
Posted Feb 7th 2008 8:25AM by Nilay PatelFiled under: Home Entertainment Hey, look at that — the Squeezebox Duet just popped up for pre-order. Slim Devices’s answer to Sonos was pretty impressive when we played with it at CES, and it looks like pricing is exactly what we heard: $400 for the wireless controller and a single Squeezebox Receiver, which can stream music off your home machine or tune into Rhapsody or Pandora. Is the Givori Serendipity the world’s ugliest cellphone?

Is the Givori Serendipity the world’s ugliest cellphone?
Posted Feb 7th 2008 8:46AM by Nilay PatelFiled under: Cellphones We’ve never really understood the luxury cellphone market, but color us flat-out confused (and nauseated) by Givori’s latest ultra-high-end handset, the Serendipity. We’re not certain what upgrades you get over a standard Nokia N76 for the $3,077 asking price, but let us just suggest that you save the money and hand your existing phone off to a kid with a Bedazzler. No one will know the difference.[Via Luxurylaunches]Tags: gps, TV, mobiles, dvr (Read the full post about ‘Is the Givori Serendipity the world’s ugliest cellphone?’…)

Leaked image: Motorola M990 Smart Rider

Leaked image: Motorola M990 Smart Rider
Another day another leaked image, this time its the upcoming Motorola M990 Smart Rider. The info is courtesy of the FCC and it shows off a phone with a unique name and purpose. According to the details the Motorola M990 will be called the Smart Rider and will be a “GSM high tier fixed mobile car phone.” The thought of a phone that is limited to a car sounds really funny these days, but the specs make it sound almost like a normal mobile phone. Based on the FCC’s “Electromagnetic Compatibility Test Report” the Smart Rider offers “not only voice but also high speed data services, entertainment, information, advanced network connection, BT connections, GPS navigation services, etc. (Read the full post about ‘Leaked image: Motorola M990 Smart Rider’…)

The CharmingBurka breaks no laws of the Koran, only taste
Posted Feb 7th 2008 6:40AM by Thomas RickerFiled under: Wearables var A great man (or was it Tim Gunn) once said that fashion had to be culturally relevant. To that end we bring you the CharmingBurka. The kit sends a “self-defined” picture of the woman beneath to every Bluetooth mobile phone in the vicinity.
