Dreambook Light IL1; Yet another UMPC to compete with Asus

Dreambook Light IL1; Yet another UMPC to compete with Asus
Its hard not to compare similar styled and priced UMPC’s to the Asus Eee PC. The Eee seems to have a good thing going, fair price along with a good setup and most important a loyal following, however the newest competitor may fall a little short. The Dreambook Light IL1 features a 7-inch display at 800 x 480 with a 1GHz Via C7-M processor and up to 1GB RAM, you can also choose between either a 2GB, 4GB or 8GB flash-based storage or a 1.8-inch 40GB hard drive. So far it sounds pretty nice, but there are a few things missing, the most important is the lack of built-in Wi-Fi, the price is also a bit high as the base model starts at $449 AUD or $446 US. Creative announces price cut on their 32GB Zen

Creative announces price cut on their 32GB Zen
Recently, there have been many price cuts and additions of cool new players, from the Microsoft Zune to Apple’s iPod Touch. A lot of which encourage people to stray away from Apple and Microsoft, most recently Creative has decided to cut prices of their 32GB Zen by about $30 in efforts to boost sales. The price of Apple’s 32GB iPod Touch is $499, albeit comes loaded with a lot of cool features, but for the same storage, the Creative Zen is nice and compact device is now only $299. However, you can’t exactly compare this to the iPod Touch, so if you were to compare this to the iPod nano, for about a $100 more than the $199 price tag of the 8GB model, you get quadruple the storage plus an FM radio. Motorola’s TEXEL in the wild?

Motorola’s TEXEL in the wild?
Posted Feb 9th 2008 9:03AM by Chris ZieglerFiled under: Cellphones That alleged leak of Moto’s 2008 lineup last year in Amsterdam is looking more and more legit pretty much by the minute. First, we got a glimpse of what appears to be the Skarven — a phone that’ll probably become the Z12 kick slider at retail — a few days ago, and now an alleged shot of the TEXEL candybar has turned up. As much flak as Motorola has taken recently for yawnfest industrial design, we’ve gotta say that we’re sort of digging what they’ve thrown together with the TEXEL here (assuming it’s real, of course). The striped keypad is vaguely attractive, the display looks plenty big, and we’ll always take a few touch sensitive controls to turn up the sexy factor a notch or three. Thor Shield ensures you can’t tase me, bro!
Posted Feb 8th 2008 10:14PM by Ryan BlockFiled under: Wearables So Point Blank Solutions, Inc. and G² Consulting apparently went right ahead despite the existing patent app and came up with an anti-Taser material called Thor Shield, which weighs two ounces per square foot and can be integrated into anything from a flak jacket to gloves (pictured) to a standard issue t-shirt. We totally can’t wait to wear our hilarious / ironic Thor Shielded Threadless shirts to the next G8 summit, yo.[Via Danger Room]Tags: DAB, tests, gaming, digital (Read the full post about ‘Thor Shield ensures you can’t tase me, bro!’…)

DreamBook Light IL1 runs on VIA, won’t run ASUS out of business

DreamBook Light IL1 runs on VIA, won’t run ASUS out of business
The Eee PC has certainly turned into a sort of rallying point for obscure laptop manufacturers and OEMs, and now Pioneer Computers Australia is getting in on the action. From what we can tell, the DreamBook Light IL1 is a relatively unique shell wrapped around VIA’s reference C7-M design. The 7-inch LCD runs at 800 x 480, and the 1GHz processor is backed by up to 1GB of RAM. Most interesting here is the absolute configurability, from OS choice (including Vista, XP and Ubuntu) to connectivity, but unfortunately it comes at a price: the $499 AUD ($446 US) base model doesn’t even include WiFi. Looks like this round goes to ASUS, but we like where this all is headed. (Read the full post about ‘DreamBook Light IL1 runs on VIA, won’t run ASUS out of business’…)
