Posted Feb 13th 2008 7:39AM by Donald MelansonFiled under: Misc. Gadgets, Household We’ve already seen cellphone (and WiFi) blocking wallpaper and solar powered wallpaper, to name a few, but it looks like the folks at Philips have some ideas of their own for your walls, with a recent patent application of theirs revealing plans for some “wired wallpaper.” As New Scientist reports, that would basically consist of wallpaper with a series of conducting strips running through it, which could be used to power any device with the necessary conducting pins simply by sticking it to the wall. Posted Feb 12th 2008 10:58PM by Evan BlassFiled under: Misc. GadgetsAs anyone who has a regular date with a needle knows, poking oneself on the daily can be a real pain — in the ass or otherwise. Well there appears to be good news on the horizon for at least some of us self-stabbers: Philips is attempting to patent a method for diabetic glucose detection that eschews the finger prick for a simple breath test. Based on recent research linking blood glucose levels to the concentration of carbon dioxide in exhaled breath, Philips claims to have built a non-invasive device significantly more accurate than past attempts based on sugar’s spectroscopic signature. The delay of the Cloudbook came with some mixed emotions, some people were happy about the delay because it could possibly mean a better product and some were just angry. It was however with good reason that Everex delayed the release. According to Everex they had reached the limits with Enlightenment desktop and did a complete switch of the gOS GUI to instead use GNOME which will allow for more flexibility. Good news is that Everex is now on track for that February 15 release date. And on another Cloudbook note, the picture above is a newly released image courtesy of Everex. Nice green box, I guess that goes along with the whole green image. Via [Ultra Mobile Life] Keep up with the latest gadget goodness! Posted Feb 12th 2008 7:36PM by Darren MurphFiled under: HDTV, Home Entertainment, Storage Simmer down — it’s not like you haven’t seen advancements in blue laser technology before, and even though the current format war may still be raging when either’s successor rolls into town, Kaai and Soraa are already looking to the future. Reportedly, Khosla Ventures has invested in both of the aforementioned firms, and while company representatives aren’t disclosing much at the moment, we do know that the duo is exploring ways to “exploit gallium nitride, which is also the basis for existing blue LEDs and blue lasers.” Apparently, they’d like to concoct suitable replacements for conventional LEDs in the lighting market and make a showing in the optical data storage arena, too. Posted Feb 12th 2008 4:12PM by Ryan BlockFiled under: Home Entertainment We got some good time in with Apple’s take 2 (i.e. v2.0) software update at Macworld this year, but now that it’s out we had to put the spurs to it. We’ll be updating with more as we go, but for right now here’s what you need to know: The update itself is under 200MB and took us under five minutes to download, but over ten minutes to install. Our first try failed out. Also, get used to seeing that loading bar screen, it cycled through about five times for us. Yep, that’s a slick new video that it opens with. Did someone say 1080p output? Oh yes, it’s finally enabled! Yep, it’s officially software version 2.0. (Read the full post about ‘Apple TV (take 2), take two’…)

Hot on the heels of adding a 20-minute installation to the PS3 version of Devil May Cry 4, Capcom is set to offer a similar feature on a PSP game.
The forthcoming Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G will allow players to install either part or all of the game on to a Memory Stick. The news came directly from Capcom of Japan during an event to signal the completion of the new game; but specific details are still thin on the ground.
Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G is not a brand new game in the series, instead, it is an update to Monster Hunter Freedom 2 with more content; so, it is definitely one for hardcore fans of the series.

Posted Feb 12th 2008 1:21PM by Nilay PatelFiled under: Cellphones Nokia confirmed yesterday that we’d be seeing touch-enabled S60 devices in the second half of the year, which instantly started speculation over what a form the UI might take, as we’ve seen some pretty wild concepts from the Finns in the past. Sadly, however, it looks like touch S60 is going be exactly what the name implies and not a speck more — check out this demo video posted on the Nokia marketing blog. Sure, it’s being demoed off a PC on a touch tablet and anything could change, but we’d say that Nokia’s goal of keeping S60 essentially the same to avoid confusing consumers is a little misplaced — this seems like a terrific opportunity to roll out a sexy new version of S60 with touch at the forefront and re-capture the interest of all those Symbian users, so simply glomming touch onto the existing UI seems like a cop-out.
