Sound-Activated LED Spotlights

Sound-Activated LED Spotlights

You know kids and their boundless energy. Most of them love to run up and down staircases, but doing so with poor lighting can be dangerous - hence the Sound-Activated LED Spotlights. Mount these battery-operated lights along a stairwell, in a closet, outside your side door…wherever you need some light but don’t need the hassle of electrical work. Loud or sharp sound will turn the four bright LED lights on; they’ll turn off automatically 10 seconds after last sound heard. Manual on/off option. Pivoting bracket directs the light where you need it. Weather-resistant for outdoor use. These babies will cost $9.99 for a set of two. Pretty cheap considering the potential pitfalls you can avoid. Intel’s 6-core Xeon and Nehalem CPU info leaked

Intel’s 6-core Xeon and Nehalem CPU info leaked
Posted Feb 25th 2008 12:02PM by Joshua TopolskyFiled under: Desktops, Laptops Intel’s had its new processor plans slipped out to the public thanks to Sun, according to DailyTech. Details on the 6-core (!) Xeon Dunnington, as well as the kinda-sorta hush-hush Nehalem were apparently leaked out onto Sun’s public web server over the weekend, including plans for the new Xeons to overtake the company’s Tigerton CPU line. The Dunnington processors will have a 16MB L3 cache shared by all six cores, and will be pin-compatible with the Tigertons, thus making integration with your Clarksboro chipset slightly less painful… by being possible. Phil Harrison out at Sony

Phil Harrison out at Sony
Posted Feb 25th 2008 4:54AM by Ryan BlockFiled under: GamingNot but a few days after some decided anti-Sony Japan commentary by a very frustrated Phil Harrison, the Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios President is out, with his role to be assumed by the monolithic Kaz Hirai. Phil recently expressed his frustration for SCE Japan’s resistance to online and social gaming, which, as it turns out, is exactly where Sony needed to be like five years ago. From the sound of things, Phil’s departure is a little unceremonious (and, dare we say, sanctimonious?), but who’s to say what really went down behind closed doors?Read - Phil pulled his hair out over Sony Japan’s conservative natureRead - … (Read the full post about ‘Phil Harrison out at Sony’…)

SpaceStation keeps things neat

SpaceStation keeps things neat

I must say that wireless technology is very welcome - when was the last time you took a peek at the mess of cables right behind your desk? Wasn’t a pretty sight, was it, and chances are you’d find wayward stationary, nail clippings and even a booger or two that was flicked in that direction by an ingrate of a colleague. With our lives being so busy all the time at the office, it makes perfect sense for something like the SpaceStation to exist. Check out the product description right after the jump. An extended desk organizer for laptop users with internal coiling pins conceals all the cords that usually sprawl over the desk. (Read the full post about ‘SpaceStation keeps things neat’…)

Sony’s PSP navigates the floors of GDC 2008

Well, well — what have we here? Apparently, this PSP (developer’s edition, we’re told) was spotted at the Game Developers Conference in California attempting to showcase how well the gaming handheld could handle navigation. Unfortunately, the underground nature of the booth resulted in a slightly inaccurate reading, but we’re sure it’ll do quite alright under normal circumstances when it’s (hopefully) loosed in the not-too-distant future.

Samsung To Double Flash SSD Capacity

Samsung To Double Flash SSD Capacity
Samsung looks on track to double its flash SSD capacity before the year is over, claiming that a 128GB version will be shipping this third quarter while a 256GB version will probably appear shortly thereafter. The price will definitely be astronomical, but it bodes well for uber-thin notebooks such as the Lenovo ThinkPad X300 and the macbook air. Chances are the 256GB model will utilize Multi Level Cell (MLC) storage that is more sluggish compared to a Single Level Cell (SLC) drive, but it has advantages of stacking multiple bits of data per cell to reduce the overall cost of the disk. I guess we’ll be seeing more slim notebooks being released next year (although affording one of them is another can of worms…). (Read the full post about ‘Samsung To Double Flash SSD Capacity’…)
