We’ve reported on how French law forced Orange and Apple to offer an unlocked iPhone. I may have even commented that though the unlocked iPhone was expensive it would be nice for Americans to at least have the choice of purchasing an unlocked iPhone. Well, it seems there are other people who share my opinion in Congress.
According to the CNET News Blog, Anne Broache is reporting that there is a democratic bill in the House of Representatives that would legally force AT&T and Apple to offer an unlocked iPhone. Now, the law wouldn’t specifically address AT&T or the iphone.

Here in corporate America, this growing question is getting louder and harder to avoid. Is it time we switch to Mac? Our IT folks swear by Microsoft almost as much as they swear at Microsoft. How about yours? The past It used to be if you did business you had a PC and if you were artsy or in academia you were Mac’d out. Thanks to delays from Microsoft, folks scared to upgrade and whatever you want to call Vista’s release and subsequent lackluster conversion of Windows users; everyone seems to be doing some head scratching before their next move. Europe gets the SanDisk Cruzer Tag USB Flash Drives that will be available in 2GB, 4GB and 8GB capacities. While they perform rather admirably as a standard USB flash drive, what makes this batch stand out from the rest of the mediocre bunch would be its fashionable exterior. Each of these USB keys will ship with pre-loaded versions of Skype, McAfee Anti Virus and the SignupShield Password Manager. If you’re a USB flash drive collector, then you probably won’t go wrong with the Cruzer Tag.

As a podcaster (or netcaster, depending on the terminology you use), we have a great studio setup to record in. But we’re always wanting to go “on location” to record and it’s really become an issue to have a truly mobile recording setup to go out on those location broadcasts. We don’t have a crew to follow us around and carry the equipment - we do it all ourselves. In the past, we’ve used a 4 channel mixer and an old G4 PowerBook. Still, not very mobile. Then I discovered the UCCTOP XENO. It looks to be a combination laptop and mixer with lots of cool controls and features that would be perfect for a mobile broadcasting setup. MSI’s “Green Design” notebook touts itself to be the first anion notebook in the world, capable of releasing high amounts of anions to help clean and purify the air around you. Sounds pretty useful especially for those who are cooped up in the office all day long, with no chance to get any fresh air at all. For those who are not in the know, anions are considered to be “vitamins” of the air, capable of enhancing your body’s condition, promote nervous stability and recovery from fatigue while encouraging circulation of halted blood. Expect to see MSI’s anion-enabled notebook at CeBIT this year. (Read the full post about ‘MSI Green Design Notebook’…)

Posted Feb 28th 2008 8:06AM by Ryan BlockFiled under: Displays, Gaming Oh boy, if ever there was a worthy use case for a giant $10k multi-touch table, it’s a serene port of Hungry Hungry Hippos called Firefly, which Microsoft developed as a proof of concept for Surface. Just gather them into your jar. Go on, gather ‘em up, those 100,000 fireflies aren’t going to gather themselves. Video after the break. We recently got wind that Sony will be collaborating with Sharp where lcd panels are concerned, and now the news reports that Canon is buying into Hitachi;s LCD business. Looks like Canon is more than ready to splash out approximately £200 million to purchase a 25% stake in Hitachi’s LCD division. This move by Canon ensures that it will have ample supply of displays for their cameras and photocopiers. In addition, Panasonic has also taken up another quarter of Hitachi’s business a few weeks back, just so you know who’s going to bed with who. Will the consumer benefit from all these companies snapping up shares of other companies’ businesses? Only time and good corporate governance will tell. Corsair has introduced an updated version of its Flash Voyager GT drive that will bring 16GB of storage space to the masses, minus the speed sacrifice that often comes with the territory of extra capacity courtesy of an advanced memory controller and hand-picked flash chips. Corsair claims that this new release will feature a nearly quadruple speed boost over similar drives. So far in controlled lab tests, this USB flash drive is capable of transferring a 1.6GB movie within 98 seconds, while older designs take up to half a dozen minutes. Features include a shock- and water-resistant rubber shell and TrueCrypt software to secure your sensitive data with 256-bit AES encryption.
