Posted Mar 16th 2008 4:43PM by Ryan BlockFiled under: Gaming Today’s Wii homebrew hotness comes by way of Team Twiizers, whose new hack takes last week’s CameCube-free loader and enables custom channel icons that load hacked apps just like that. Getting from point A to point B still isn’t a cakewalk yet, though; you still have to load the Zelda / Twilight hack and use it to reboot your Wii to get that app into the channel space. Intel is reported to soon unveil their mini solid state drives with 80GB and 160GB of storage. These new solid state drives are expected to amaze because they are very small at 1.5 and 2.5-inches. Notebook PCs and laptops will be the rightful beneficiaries of the new Intel’s solid state drives sometime the next quarter of this year. No word yet on the price and when the shipping will start. Earlier at the CES, Intel had already demonstrated the solid state drives and in April, they will be shown again at the Intel Developer Forum where the drives could possibly be officially launched. Intel’s recent entrance into the laptop flash disk drive business is expected to bring the company into competition with Samsung and Toshiba who are also currently going the same path. So you think you’re safe? You think you can just carry on doing what you do in your life without thinking you’re in danger? Don’t you have any idea what’s going on behind the scenes when your computer automatically reboots, crashes, keeps sending your contacts suspicious emails or links to kiddie porn? If you do, then you wouldn’t have been here reading this. No, instead you would’ve been in a state of shock, like the rest of us who are in the know. Instead, you would’ve been curled up in bed, wondering how you managed to last so long without seeing the “real picture”. If you don’t understand what I’m talking about, just take a look at the photo above. (Read the full post about ‘Wicked photos offer a closer look at computer malware’…)

Sony Ericsson’s newest patent comes afloat, and it shows us a new type of device allowing up to three input interfaces. The electronic device has a main body, a flip attached to the main body and multiple input interfaces (it says here), so basically this will be some kind of new device in which you can enter data via any of the available ways. From the illustration above, you can see that this will be some kind of cellphone/smartphone with a flap on its face that can go both ways. It’s reversible, and two different input interfaces will reside on that flap alone, aside from the input interface located on the main body of the phone itself. Nowadays different cell phone producing companies make a lot of efforts to prolong battery life of their products. But despite the fact that some of them achieved quite significant results in this domain, it’s still impossible not to charge your cell phone at all. Yet Ricardo Baiao is sure that an absolutely new approach to the problem helps to find the best solution. His idea is based on the usage of kinetic energy to charge the phone. Something of that kind is used in the kinetic watch. Thus, the Atlas Kinetic cell phone concept focuses on “green” technologies without sacrificing design. It’s all made just of two materials: aluminum and glass. The central sapphire glass reveals the generating and charging unit. (Read the full post about ‘Kinetic energy to charge cell phone’…)

Posted Mar 15th 2008 9:41PM by Paul MillerFiled under: Digital Cameras, TransportationThere’s just one, fairly ironic, flaw to the otherwise totally lovable red light cameras that adorn Dallas: they work too well. Turns out the cams have curtailed red light infractions by 50 percent, which in turn has put a budget crunch on City Hall. The city is now considering stopping its planned rollout of more cameras, or shutting down the cameras on a rotating basis — upkeep when off is next to nothing, but the city pays $3,799 per month per online camera to its service provider. That sounds like quite a spendy broadband bill, but we’re not the experts here. Just remember kids, your government wants what’s best for you, and what’s best f (Read the full post about ‘Dallas considers shutting off red light cams, since they’re working too well and harming revenue’…)

Posted Mar 16th 2008 3:40AM by Paul MillerFiled under: cellphones, Portable Audio, Portable Video While it appears that Meizu’s infringement shutdown at CeBIT was for unlicensed MP3 usage, and not at all to do with the eerie resemblance to a certain iPhone, the company still seems eager to prove to the world it is brewing something unique with the M8 mini One. CEO Jack Wong posted a bunch of new shots to the Meizu forums with small interface tweaks that inch the OS a bit away from its iphone roots — but certainly not far.
