Internet-connected Alarm Clock

Internet-connected Alarm Clock
This is no ordinary alarm clock as it can be hooked up to the Internet. Unlike old-school mechanical alarm clocks that you have to set manually, this Internet-connected alarm clock provides three primary features: automatic time setting on power-up, streaming MP3 music, and remote management. The easy-to-use, PIC24FJ64-based clock is connected to an ENC28J60 Ethernet chip, an MP3 decoder chip for streaming music, an organic LED graphical display, and a 24LC512 EEPROM for storing alarm data, fonts, and images. Gotta love the wooden case it comes in. The fact that wake up times can be automated based on calendar entries makes this a winner in my book. World’s thinnest 8-megapixel cellphone module announced by Samsung

World’s thinnest 8-megapixel cellphone module announced by Samsung
Eight is the new five. In terms of megapixels, that is. As you are well aware, Samsung holds the record for the world’s thinnest cellphones, be it in the clamshell, slider, or candy bar form factor category. How do they do it? Why, by packing the world’s thinnest cellphone parts in their phones, of course. The latest announcement from Samsung brings yet another record-breaking (or is it record setting?) item, an 8.5mm CMOS digital camera module that they will use for their next-generation mobile phones. This will upgrade their current generation 5-megapixel phones to 8-megapixel ones, and as if that wasn’t enough, the camera module also features anti-shake, 1-cm macro mode, face-tracking technology and a smile shutter feature. China Now #1 Internet Market

China Now #1 Internet Market
The United States is no longer the nation with the largest number of internet users. China overtook the US last month in users for the first time, according to the state-run China Internet Network Information Center. Researcher BDA China Ltd. estimates there are now over 220 million internet users in China, compared with 217.1 million in the U.S. Online ad revenue continues to lag in China, however, totaling $1.3 billion in 2007 compared to e-Marketer estimates of $21.4 billion in America. Maybe it’s time for me to start promoting the Chinesse translation of my blog. (Read the full post about ‘China Now #1 Internet Market’…)

What is next after the HTC S730; maybe not the ordinary slider

What is next after the HTC S730; maybe not the ordinary slider
You have come to expect slider phones from HTC. The HTC TyTN (AT&T 8525), the TyTN II (AT&T Tilt) as well as the HTC730 smartphone. We all know that there are new models on the drawing board but what will they look like? I would hate to see the large displays shrink and the QWERTY keyboards are so handy go away in any form. Most of the previous HTC models are not known for being small and light weight so what if HTC decides to pair down their next slider phone? After looking at a patent filing from HTC the folks over at Unwired View feel that they have a good idea what the new HTC 730 may look like. What is so different? Well, as you can see in from their Photoshop rendering the numeric keypad is uncovered. (Read the full post about ‘What is next after the HTC S730; maybe not the ordinary slider’…)

New Corsair RAM Will Speed Up Your Mac

New Corsair RAM Will Speed Up Your Mac
Corsair, the memory manufacturer which sounds like a 1970s airline, claims that its new Mac-tuned RAM will make the MacBook and MacBook Pro run up to 28% faster. How does it perform this seemingly impossible trick? Low latency, the explanation for which is so dense we find it easier to just think of it as magical fairy dust: Corsair’s Mac Memory features special Serial Presence Detect (SPD) profile characteristics, so that Macs can self-configure for optimal performance for critical applications. The graphs look impressive. According to the one above, Corsair’s memory shaves almost 30 seconds from a fairly demanding Photoshop task (it’s also one of the only times you will read the words “shorter is better”). Canon Updates Firmware for Mid-Range DSLRs

Canon Updates Firmware for Mid-Range DSLRs
Canon has released firmware updates for both the EOS 5D and the EOS 30D. Both cameras gain support for newer lenses, enabling lens information to be written to the EXIF metadata in photos. This means that owners can use Canon’s software to correct known aberrations in photos taken with them. It also means that the anally retentive can be sure that Apple’s Aperture 2.0 will know just what lens you were using, and when. The 5D update (v.1.1.1) also fixes a problem with memory cards. Previously, if a CF card was bigger than 8GB, the camera had trouble working out how much memory it had. Not any more. The link below gives a full list of supported lenses and links to downloads.
