Bejeweled 2 shines brighter with new update

If you’re a Bejeweled puzzle game fan, then you’ll want to hear about a major update being released by Astraware. The update, for Palm OS and Windows Mobile, will allow players some flexibility in how their Bejeweled 2 game is displayed by enabling support for a 240×240 square screen for Windows Mobile and Palm OS devices in addition to 320×320 support for Windows Mobile Professional and other classic devices. This latest update is especially big news for Windows Mobile Standard devices, since this update introduces the very first release for that platform.

The new Windows Mobile Standard version will support 240×320 and 320×240 non-touchscreen devices.

Phase One introduces elusive 645 medium format camera platform

Phase One introduces elusive 645 medium format camera platform
Posted Mar 19th 2008 9:28AM by Darren MurphFiled under: Digital Cameras It’s been a solid tick since we’ve heard any rustling in the bushes from Phase One, but the company’s striking back with a vengeance with the 645 (also known as the Mamiya 645AFDIII). Hailed as the “world’s most flexible, open medium format digital camera platform,” the unit plays nice with a smorgasbord of high-end lenses (Mamiya’s 645 family, Hasselblad V-lenses and Pentacon Six lenses, for starters), and can achieve shutter speeds from 1/4000 second to 60 minutes. Unfortunately, that’s about all the details we’re given for now, and while pre-production units are sneaking out at this week’s Photo Imaging Expo, we’ll be forced to hang tight until Q2 before indulging in full technical specifications. REDFLY Mobile Companion gets previewed

REDFLY Mobile Companion gets previewed
Posted Mar 19th 2008 9:01AM by Paul MillerFiled under: Laptops Still mourning the passing of the Foleo? You and the other couple of dozen people on earth that need something like that might find a winner in the REDFLY Mobile Companion unveiled at CES this year. The device offers external control of Windows Mobile 5 and 6 devices over Bluetooth 2.0 or USB, with a full keyboard, 8-inch 800 x 480 LCD and some USB and VGA plugs for tapping into external drives and an external monitor. ZDNet’s Matthew Miller got an early beta version of the device to test out, and while he admits he’s in the minority of people willing to shell out $500 for something like this, he was fairly impressed by the build quality and usability of the device. ColorWare adds life to Nintendo DS Lite

ColorWare adds life to Nintendo DS Lite
The DS Lite might already come in a variety of shades and colors, but apparently two-tones aren’t enough for ColorWare who allows you to customize exactly how your DS Lite would look like, thanks to an online selection of glossy, scratch resistant finishes. You can even choose a metallic paint option that features sparkling flakes if you’re daring enough. Virtually every part of your DS Lite can be customized, although the final damage to your wallet is more than what you would pay for a second hand DS Lite, as each pimping session will cost you a cool $99. The Operation Game, Hulk Style

The Operation Game, Hulk Style

I’m sure several of you are looking at this and saying: “Just what possessed Hasbro to make a version of the Operation Game with the Hulk?” I wish I could help you. The only answer I can give you is simply “because they can”. Also, Hasbro wants to cash in on the Hulk franchise that will hopefully receive a major boost with the release of The Incredible Hulk movie this summer. I’m told that this film is not a direct sequel to Ang Lee’s The Hulk (2003). That’s fine by me, because that film was so awful, the Hulk deserves a Batman Begins like reboot. In fact, there is a trailer for The Incredible Hulk floating around on the Internet, and it actually looks pretty good. (Read the full post about ‘The Operation Game, Hulk Style’…)

Canon 5D Update: Fanboy Fantasy or Real Deal?

Canon 5D Update: Fanboy Fantasy or Real Deal?
According to a post on the DP Review forums, Canon will be unveiling the long awaited successor to the EOS 5D in a “surprise announcement” on April 22nd. The 5D will cost $3500 and offer specs which bring it uncomfortably close to Canon’s flagship EOS1Ds MkIII, including a 15.3MP, full frame sensor, weatherproofing and a huge 3″ live-view LCD screen. You can peek the full copy-and-paste of the details below, but the author boxf1, despite quoting “a source I am unwilling to disclose” seems to either have a legitimate leak or has kept his fanboy fantasies on a tight leash: The details sound pretty plausible and Canon has a habit of popping newer tech into the lower-rung models in its range. Heat from GeForce 9800 GX2 causing system crashes?

Heat from GeForce 9800 GX2 causing system crashes?
Posted Mar 19th 2008 6:05AM by Thomas Ricker By now you’ve had a chance to sample the reviews on nVIDIA’s new flagship GeForce 9800 X2 graphics card right? Good, so did you happen to see the comments from bit-tech about heat? During their testing, bit-tech encountered “a number of heat-related crashes, hard locks and instabilities” with their ASUS Striker II Formula motherboard. They claim with 100% certainty that all the issues were related to the installation of the GeForce 9800 GX2. Apparently, the heat generated by the card coupled with 9800 GX2’s air-flow restricting footprint caused the motherboard to enter an automatic self-protect mode as board components exceeded 90 degrees Celsius (190-degrees Fahrenheit) — the GPUs never exceeded a reasonable 85 degrees Celsius. Music Pillow

Music Pillow
Sleep is always sweet especially after you’re trying to recover from a long, hard day at the office. The Music Pillow helps add music to your rest, as it can be hooked up to a music player. Unfortunately, it doesn’t draw power from your device so you’ll have to make sure that there is a quartet of AAA batteries ready at all times for 10 hours of non-stop audio playback. The Music Pillow retails for $19.90 a pop and is inflatable, so you can blow it up to a certain comfortable size no matter how large/small your head is. Rumor: Nvidia to acquire VIA?

Rumor: Nvidia to acquire VIA?
Rumor has it that Nvidia is currently in discussion with VIA Technologies and a possible acquisition is in question but VIA is said to be setting a very high price tag. According to DigiTimes, the possible Nvidia-VIA scenarios include acquisition of VIA’s processor division, a strategic alliance, or the acquisition of the whole company. Since VIA is slowly going down in terms of profits, it may as well rethink of opening up with a much lower price. No official word yet was given out by Nvidia because they said this is just a market rumor so a comment is unnecessary. Even VIA denies the speculations and says that an acquisition isn’t cooking up and is determined not to give up the x86 CPU division. (Read the full post about ‘Rumor: Nvidia to acquire VIA?’…)
