Super Talent releases world’s thinnest 256GB SSD

Super Talent releases world’s thinnest 256GB SSD
Super Talent has launched the world’s slimmest 256GB solid state drive (SSD) – the FSD56GC25H. This new SSD aside from having a really long model number is only 12.5mm (0.49-inches) thick, making it the thinnest among the crop of SSDs available on the market today. Aside from its thin dimension, Super Talent still managed to adhere to the industry standard 2.5-inch hard drive form factor. These standards include SATA-I interface and 100% interchangeability with conventional 2.5-inch SATA HD. It also sports Super Talent’s patented stacking technology in storing data files. The FSD56GC25H (whew!) drive also supports 0.1ms access time, 65MB/sec sequential read speed and 50MB/sec sequential write speed. Motorola’s DH02 mobile TV with PVR gains GPS and HSDPA, loses R

Motorola’s DH02 mobile TV with PVR gains GPS and HSDPA, loses R
Posted Mar 26th 2008 9:36AM by Thomas RickerFiled under: GPS, Household, Portable Audio, Portable Video Motorola just announced a new portable DVB-H TV to followup its DH01. The name? DH02, of course. The new mobile TV now features a GPS receiver and Tele Atlas maps, an HSDPA / GPRS back-channel for interactive media, and new “auto-flip” portrait to landscape (presumably via accelerometer) touch-screen display of unspecified dimensions. The UI takes advantage of the touch-screen with an “intuitive click, drag, and scroll” navigation. Moto does call the WQVGA display high-resolution — which is anything but high if the DH02 carries the same 4.3-inch display of the DH01. Motorola to split in 2009

Back in February, we reported that Motorola was stating that it was looking at alternatives for its Mobile Device Business. One of those alternatives Motorola said it would consider would be to completely spin off that business. Well, Motorola announced today it is taking that very step in 2009.

The Motorola Board of Directors will take action to create two stand-alone businesses, both of which will be publicly-traded companies. Current Motorola shareholders will receive a tax-free distribution as part of the split. In addition to the mobile devices business the second business will offer broadband and mobility solutions.

Not many people will be surprised by this move since Motorola hinted at it back in February.

US ready for new Nokia?

US ready for new Nokia?
Meet the Nokia 3110 Evolve, shown off at Green gadgets forum in NYC is slated to arrive in Europe later this year.  Company representatives say no plans have been made to introduce this in the US.  And why would they? Sure a billion mobile phones dumped into consumers pockets last year means a lot of waste, especially if those phones don’t contain the 50% recycled material cover like that of the 3110 Evolve.  To boot, over 60% of the Evolve can be turned back into other products.  These sound like things us Americans would have issues with, no? Modu takes title of “world’s lightest phone”

Modu takes title of “world’s lightest phone”

I remember during the late 1990s and early 2000s saw cell phones take the “smaller and lighter” route, with each new model deemed “good” or “excellent” based on its size first, and functions second. Who could forget about the race to have the smallest handset? Nokia’s 8xxx series and Ericsson’s colorful flip handsets definitely forged a path for everyone else to follow, but somewhere along the way cell phone design experienced a paradigm shift. Manufacturers realized that consumers wanted their cell phones to do more than just carry out conversations and send text messages - which is why handsets from then on started to get bigger and heavier due to the inclusion of more features. Giant D20 Monument to Gary Gygax

Giant D20 Monument to Gary Gygax
The d20 is possibly the ultimate symbol of nerd-dom. And of course, you’d expect MIT students to fully embrace the joys of Dungeons and Dragons. So it’s entirely appropriate to find this giant 20-sided dice at MIT’s Killan Court. The frame-and-fabric sculpture is, of a course, a tribute to the late Gary Gygax. What the D&D inventor really needs, though, is a permanent granite d20 tomb. Much better than those lame old Pharaohs, who could only manage to build their mausoleums in the shape of a d4. Official: Touchscreen Eee Coming This Spring

Official: Touchscreen Eee Coming This Spring
Asus has announced the successor to that geek-favorite, the Eee PC. The 8.9 inch mini notebooks will have touch screens and possibly also include GPS. Asus VP Kevin Lin also said that the base model will ship with a gig of RAM as standard, double that of today’s model, and the SSD will also be beefed up, with 8GB and 12GB available. Asus is storming ahead in this sector, and the addition of a touch screen makes the diminutive notebook even more attractive. With the poor battery life already exhibited by the current model, though, we’d happily do without the power-hungry GPS unit. Streaming Last.fm, now possible with Vista Media Center

Streaming Last.fm, now possible with Vista Media Center
Streaming music from Last.fm, the popular social music platform, can now be done using Vista Media Center. This one is just an upgrade to the previous Windows Media Center 2005 plugin that allows music streaming from the website. Developed by Damian Meher, the new plugin lets the user stream audio tracks from Last.fm by simply typing the song title or artist’s name, and even display songs similar to your request from the Web and the PC itself. The plugin is called the MceFM. Not much creativity on the name but I hope this one will be a better upgrade to the previous version. Damian disclosed in his blog that he “dynamically added tags to the stream, which means that Media Center will shown all that information correctly”.
