Researcher raises alarm about biometric hacking with “biologger” tool

Posted Apr 3rd 2008 2:02PM by Donald Melanson
Filed under: Misc. gadgets While attempts to bypass biometric security measures are certainly nothing new, a researcher from London-based Information Risk Management is now raising an alarm about a new area of biometric hacking, and he’s even gone so far as to release the source code for proof-of-concept tool to really drive the point home. As PC World reports, IRM’s Matthew Lewis has demonstrated what he describes as a “biologging” system, which actually intercepts and captures biometric data as it passes between the biometric scanner and the processing server, during which time it apparently isn’t encrypted on many systems. Android battles Yahoo! at AT&T

Android battles Yahoo! at AT&T
Google’s Android mobile phone OS is being talked about a lot this week.  Yesterday, AT&T wireless Chief, Ralph de la Vega, says that after careful review, Android is “something we are going to want in our portfolio”.  Hot diggity. Joining the ranks of T-Mobile and Sprint, AT&T would be the biggest player so far to make a commitment to the open OS.  Perhaps an in house battle is waging for AT&T, pitting Yahoo!, the companies official partner for mobile web search vs Google.  Certainly this feud will grow as the mobile advertising space continues its unfettered growth. SoundID intro’s the HD300 Bluetooth headset with noise navigation, auto volume control

SoundID has announced its latest Bluetooth headset, the HD 300 with NoiseNavigation control. Boasting a narrow form and chic, high-gloss black finish, the SoundID HD300 Bluetooth headset was designed to complement the natural hearing process. NoiseNavigation is SoundID’s proprietary technology that optimizes speech intelligibility during conversation with two microphones that isolates speech and DSP algorithms. This is said to reduce wind and background noise when the Bluetooth headset is in used, in other words the person you are speaking with should not have any trouble hearing you.

Aside from NoiseNavigation, the HD300 also features PersonalSound, which lets users select from three listening modes based on the most common hearing preferences.

3-D IQ Sphere

Now according to the product description, the 3-D IQ Sphere is supposed to train both your IQ and EQ, although I’m not too sure how the latter part is going to be trained. Will arranging a rounded Rubik’s Cube actually improve my EQ? At $9 a pop, I’d rather throw in an additional $10 to pick up Brain Age on my DS which offers me way more interactivity, and to be able to share the joys of Brain Age with friends and family will definitely increase my EQ no two ways about it

35th Anniversary of First Cellular Phone Call

Thirty-five years ago today, the first ever public cellular phone call was made by Martin Cooper. Cooper, who invented the portable cell phone, placed that call on April 3, 1973 while he was the general manager of Motorola’s Communications Systems Division. That first call, placed to Cooper’s rival at AT&T’s Bell Labs from the streets of New York City, was the beginning of a revolution that has changed the lives of three billion people worldwide. A cell phone call is a call to a person in contrast with wired phone calls that are to a place.

“People are mobile,” said Cooper.

AT&T Mobility CEO: all smartphones to be 3G within “months” — including iPhone and Centro?

AT&T Mobility CEO: all smartphones to be 3G within “months” — including iPhone and Centro?
Posted Apr 3rd 2008 1:26AM by Ryan BlockFiled under: cellphonesAt AT&T’s press feast today, the focus was unquestionably the trial deployment of Microsoft’s Surface kiosks to stores later this month — the presence of Microsoft’s own Robbie Bach was testament to that fact. But there was more to the action by the time the show was over. Deployment of 3G and 4G services was a hot topic both during CEO Ralph de la Vega’s presentation and in the post-conference Q&A (one member of the press lamented the fact that AT&T’s BlackBerrys still lack HSDPA), and at one point he mentioned that all of the carrier’s smartphones would be 3G within a matter of mere “months.”We figure that instantly thrusts several devices onto (and off of) AT&T’s roadmap in the very near future, including a 3G iphone and the blackberry 9000 we recently saw strutting its stuff. XO Move Bike Concept

XO Move Bike Concept
The XO Move is a concept bike that actually transforms whenever parked, locking itself up for greater security. Depending on whether you will have a pillion rider or not, the XO Movie will be able to adapt itself accordingly thanks to a variable wheel base and a motorized top. Doesn’t look as though it is able to burn rubber from a standing start though. Tags: robots, dvr, hi fi, gprs (Read the full post about ‘XO Move Bike Concept’…)
