Enter Evolution Model Technology, whose Paintball Sentry Turret is mighty enough to mow down even the deepest of crosstown rival cliques trying to get up in your area. Arriving in wired and wireless versions, the unit is available with water- or winter-proof armor, can be controlled remotely and features a head that rotates 350-degrees and tilts 90-degrees. CTIA exposed a bunch of new companies getting into the voice to text game and it is expected to be a fast growing area. This morning saw my post on Nuance, a company bringing voice to text to GPS (in addition to a voicemail to text service), last month we saw Spinvox get $100 million in investment to grow internationally. Today, I got the opportunity to mix it up with James Siminoff, CEO of SimulScribe whose company is a leader in voicemail to text serivce and get the pulse of his company and where he believes the market is headed. Simulscribe also extended a 30 day free trial for Gadgetell readers. See the end of the post for link. (Read the full post about ‘Gadgetell Interview: James Siminoff, SimulScribe’…)

If you have a hankering for making pretty pretty pictures with your music, Yamaha’s finally going to fill that urge with a US launch of its Tenori-on music maker. The handheld device is sort of a Lite Brite for music, with 256 push-button LEDs for sequencing music and adjusting tones. The concept was first unveiled way back in 2005, but we’re glad to see it come full circle and land in America. Yamaha will be hosting launch events in New York and San Francisco on April 16th and 18th, respectively.

Palm continues its downward spiral that not even the mighty Centro can stop. Restating it’s Q3 performance, the company widened its losses to $57 million. Ouch. Compare this data to that other button crunching business-focused phone company RIM and you see two very different pictures. Both Palm and RIM brought phones down market this year (Centro and Pearl) yet RIM is still on the upswing where Palm continues to slip. A quick recap of Palm at CTIA: one million Centros have been sold. And the impact on Palm’s bottom line is? Clearly not enough to turn this boat around. What can help the once mighty stop losing ground? (Read the full post about ‘Palm swims with sharks, Q3 adds blood to water’…)

Sony certainly aims to solidify its place in the living room by launching a new BDZ series of Blu-ray recorders, with the A70 and high-end T90 being capable of picking up unprotected HDTV feeds, relying on AVC (H.264) encoding in order to record shows for future viewing on their respective 320GB and 500GB hard drives. You can choose to record videos to Blu-ray directly if the need arises, and it can also convert videos straight into portable-friendly formats. Sony PSP and other H.264-capable player owners, are you listening yet? Other shared features include both analog and digital TV tuners, Sony’s Room Link, HDMI output, S-Video, and RCA. Both models will ship in Japan this April 30th, with prices starting from $1,664 upwards. (Read the full post about ‘Sony Rolls Out More Blu-ray Recorders’…)

It looks like Apple might have made a mistake with its recent update to the Airport Extreme. We reported that the software update had fixed a long standing annoyance, which stopped people using Time Machine to back up to a USB hard drive over the air. The problem? Apple is treating this new feature as “unsupported”, which likely means that it was accidentally included in the updated software. Glenn Fleishmann, a writer for Macworld, details the glitches on the Tidbits blog, and speculates that it was in fact a “debugging feature […] that wasn’t properly turned off before the updates shipped”. So, while everything might be going smoothly for you, Gadget Lab reader, remember that the one thing you don’t want to mess around with is backups.
