3G iPhone rumor roundup

Rumors are flying about what the 3G iPhone will sport, and even when it will show up. Walt Mossberg first went public by stating that it would be out in 60 days. He then retracted that statement. Now we’re hearing that it will launch at WWDC 2008, with prices starting at $399, and at least two models–one 8GB, one 16GB, and maybe 32GB as well.

The iPhone will be thinner, and the “plasticky” feeling of the case will be removed. The non-removable battery is still present, though. Minor software enhancements and tweaks, potentially integrated GPS, but otherwise the same iPhone, just 3G now.

Even though 3G would be nice, I can’t see myself buying a new iphone.

U.S. Army to use handheld lie detectors

Technology has led to a lot of electronics being able to be shrunk down to a portable size. It seems that even when it comes to lie detection there is no exception. MSNBC is reporting that U.S. troops will begin to receive a new tool to aid them in their work. It’s a portable lie detector.

The detector is expected to be deployed to U.S. Army soldiers in Afghanistan. It will then be deployed to those in Iraq, where the device has already been used. The device doesn’t promise perfection, but does give troops a better way to assess the character of an individual they are interviewing which could save lives.

The article points out that not everyone is in favor of this technology, let alone being confident that it is ready for deployment.

Muxtape: make mixtapes at the click of a mouse

Muxtape: make mixtapes at the click of a mouse
For anyone who grew up in the 80s or early 90s, mix tapes were an essential part of pop culture. Whole evenings were devoted to the practice of creating the perfect mix tape (and learning to apply liquid eyeliner) and we would make them for parties, for our walkmans and for our friends. What’s more, if a potential love-interest surprised you with a mix tape, it was as close to a confession of undying love as a teenage boy was capable of. (Unfortunately, the only teenage boys who were that romantic existed in Hollywood screenwriters’ heads. But never mind.) Mix tapes were soon superseded by burning CDs and making ipod playlists, but neither has the same amount of romance and nostalgia. Verizon sues Time Warner Cable over some dumb ads

by Paul Miller, posted Apr 10th 2008 at 11:52AM
Hey, we hate lawsuits just as much as the next guy, but we’re finding it hard to fault Verizon for this one. Verizon and Time Warner Cable arrived in court on Wednesday to settle a tiff over some ads that Verizon claims offer up misleading info about Verizon’s FiOS service. Listed among the complaints include supposed false implications by TWC that FiOS requires a satellite dish, doesn’t include phone, broadband and video, and that Time Warner’s network is better. Time Warner Cable is naturally calling the lawsuit “without merit.” Verizon wants TWC to stop running the ads and issue a retraction, as well as compensate them for lost revenue. Micro Projector with SD Port

Micro Projector with SD Port
Micro projectors don’t yet have the image quality that one would want, but they are getting better. This one is cute and quite small, if you compare its size to the video input connectors. The bonus feature here is the SD card from which the projector can display a photo slideshow as big as 40” x 33”.At $197, it is an expensive gadget that runs on four AA batteries. Zipidee Enables eBook Sales… thanks to eBay!

We published an article about Zipidee launch back in October. They are now announcing that eBooks will be included to the list of digital goods categories they are offering.
Since eBay restricted Digital goods trade to the Classified-Ad format on March 31, 2008, frustration was growing among eBay sellers. It seems that Zipidee is taking advantage of the situation to attract digital content publishers unhappy with the new eBay policy.
There are other sites similar to Zipidee like lulu.com and I did not get the time to compare the competitors.

Micro SD Card Projector

The moment I saw the Micro SD Card Projector, my skepticism alarm went off. After all, portable projectors often generate images that are not as clear as their non-portable predecessors.

My skepticism lessened when I saw images of its projections from the product page. They looked like the projected images you would see from any other projector. Of course, it’s really hard to tell how good a projector is from a picture of its projection. It looks like my skepticism is now increasing.

Especially when I saw this product being sold on a site called Drinkstuff.com. It’s almost like their company slogan would be “we sell stuff that drunk people should use”.

LG’s X-R700 and X-S900 replace desktops, double as paperweights for product models

LG’s X-R700 and X-S900 replace desktops, double as paperweights for product models
by Thomas Ricker, posted Apr 10th 2008 at 3:29AM Don’t know about ya’ll, but our eyes tend to glaze over with apathy as soon as we see “desktop replacement” in a laptop press release. Nevertheless, here’s LG’s take on the semi-portable: the 17-inch X-R700 and 19-inch X-S900. They’re big — much bigger than the average mini-skirt found on Korean product waifs. The ₩1,699,000 (about $1,744) Model X-R700 XP50K sports a WXGA display with integrated 1.3 megapixel webcam, 3GB of memory, 512MB of nVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics and a 1.83GHz T5550 Core 2 Duo pumping away under the hood. Overboard Waterproof Cases for the Geek on the Go
Dynamic people on the go should also have the chance to enjoy their shiny stuff. While the love for gadgets only continue to grow over time, people start to ask for what was considere impossible a mere 50 years ago, one of which is waterproof electronics. Sure, there are already gadgets which are water-proof, but for those who can’t just afford to throw their older stuff away, the overboard waterproof case protects electronics 100 percent. It features transparent front and rear so you can have access to your gadget’s controls. And, since it has air-injected pockets, it’ll float to the surface just in case you accidentally let it go while diving to the bottom of a body of water that’s up to 19 feet in depth.
