Sony TG3E: world’s smallest 1080i camcorder unboxed, sized-up with 720p champ

by Thomas Ricker, posted May 2nd 2008 at 5:10AM
Get a load of what just arrived at the doorstep of our European HQ — the world’s smallest 1080i camcorder, Sony’s TG3E. Otherwise known as the TG1 in the US, this pup is small and sturdy and definitely looks the part of a Full HD (as it’s defined for camcorders) 1080i shooter. Hell, Sony somehow managed to turn that boxy design into something sexy to hold. However, Sanyo’s 720p Xacti DMX-HD700 (in red) still trumps the TG3E in size and weight. Unfortunately, it gives up significant lines of resolution in the process and uses inferior materials to boot. BodyBeat Metronome

Metronomes are meant for budding musicians to keep the beat while playing a tune, and the BodyBeat Metronome is certainly out of the ordinary as it is an electronic version that clips onto your fingertip, letting you feel the beat of the music instead of listening to it. Dubbed the Peterson BB-1 BodyBeat, it sends tiny pulses down the wire to your fingertip, providing you with a silent way of learning how to concentrate whenever you play a tune on your keyboard or piano. Sure as heck beats the irritating tick-tock tick-tock of a regular metronome.

Fujitsu lets loose U810, T2010 tablet PCs

Fujitsu lets loose U810, T2010 tablet PCs
Fujitsu wasn’t all that specific about pricing or release details when it announced its new U810 and T2010 tablet PCs earlier this year, but it looks like both have now finally made their way out the door. In case you missed it, the big addition this time around is the inclusion of a built-in HSPA modem (and rather obvious antenna), which will run you an extra $200 on top of the $999 and $1,499 base prices for the U810 and T2010, respectively. Otherwise, you can expect the same 5.6-inch and 12.1-inch displays as before, along with the usual 800MHz Intel A110 processor on the U810 and a decidedly speedier Core 2 Duo 7600 processor on the T2010, among other specs not too different from the previous models. Digital Opera iPod Adapter

Digital Opera iPod Adapter
DigiFi of Korea has just released its wireless earphones with an ipod adapter, dubbed the Digital Opera. Contrary to popular belief, the Digital Opera will not operate via Bluetooth but instead uses Kleer’s wireless technology instead which is actually “point to multi-point listen-in technology” that allows up to four people to listen to the same audio stream simultaneously. Of course, all of them will need Digital Opera earphones in order for this to happen. Each pair has enough battery life to last for up to 10 hours of non-stop playback time, and will retail for $98 a pop. (Read the full post about ‘Digital Opera iPod Adapter’…)

Hard Disk Crusher Flattens HDDs Like Tin Cans

Hard Disk Crusher Flattens HDDs Like Tin Cans
Worried about the integrity and security of your pesonal data when it’s time to rid yourselves of them? Let the Hard Disk Crusher help you out. The device you see above is the Hard Disk Crusher device by EDR Solutions. The Hard Disk Crusher which weighs almost 6 stones can crush HDDs at the rate one per 10 seconds. It runs powered by electricity through a standard outlet and has the capacity to crush 100,000 hard disks without the need for servicing. The caveat: it costs 5,750. Of course, it could especially be useful for companies who want to protect their privacy, but as for me, I could always leave my old HDD in the middle of the road where a ten-wheeler could deliver and even more devastating end to it. Qmotions bringing skate controllers to the 360

Qmotions bringing skate controllers to the 360
by Nilay Patel, posted May 1st 2008 at 10:04PM Qmotions has been hawking various specialty sports controllers for a while now, but it looks like the company is about to take the next-gen plunge with an upcoming skateboard controller called the Qmotions Big Air for the Xbox 360 — and best of all, Microsoft is going to let the company build official wireless peripherals. That’s an honor Microsoft is pretty hesitant to dole out, but it seems like the ability to wirelessly rip up some Tony Hawk swayed J Allard and co. (We hear Ballmer is a monster in the pipe.) No word on price or game compatibility other than “skateboard games currently on the market,” but look for this one to ollie into your heart sometime later this year. Maker Faire Preview: DIY Weddings, Flaming Soap Bubbles, and More

Maker Faire Preview: DIY Weddings, Flaming Soap Bubbles, and More
You know you’re a nerd when you’re trying to impress a date by working with her on an elaborate, do-it-yourself project for the Maker Faire. For Corey McGuire, the tactic worked. McGuire said that he spent many hours volunteering his time on various Maker Faire projects last year, in an effort to woo his bride-to-be. "You have to try really hard when you are trying to woo a woman with nerdiness," McGuire said. This weekend, McGuire and his sweetheart, Hallie McConlogue, will get married at the Faire. McConlogue, an independent programmer and designer, and McGuire, a NASA Ames researcher, have together contributed to a half-dozen projects for the annual do-it-yourself festival, now in its third year.
