So, this very nice publicist, Katie, asked me to take her new headlight gizmo “out camping or hiking.” Since I try not to do either of those activities, I promised to show it a good time and take it to the movies. The Coghlan’s LED headlight had a great time but might have annoyed some of the partrons with the incessant beam (shines continuously for 25 hours), and brightness (3.5 Lumens of output power). We could have used the night vision filter (flips over light) to hopscotch through the dark theatre without spilling a kernel of popcorn. Best of all, I didn’t look like a miner since it easily clips on a visor, and weighs almost nothing. (Read the full post about ‘LED Clip-on Headlight for camping . . . or the movies’…)

10 Atoms! Think about it. Nano sized.
Scientists at the University of Manchester have made this amazing breakthrough using graphene, a material that is essentially a single layer of carbon atoms. Although transistor size has been decreasing on a regular basis ever since their invention, in recent times, that speed has slowed down due to the breakdown in electrical properties at the nanoscale level.
We may not see graphene-based chips for another 15 or 20 years, but it is one possibility to replace silicon as it reaches its limits.

Okay, so even though I freely admit to naming my electronics, pampering them with accessories, showing them off to family and friends, swaddling them in cases, I’m not crazy. Not certifiably so, anyway. That’s why even I know that the $80 laptop backpack from Built takes the “gadget-as-baby” phenomenon to new heights. Designed for 12″ to 17″ notebook computers, the water-resistant neoprene backpack features three compartments (one for accessories, a shoulder pocket for whatever would fit there, and one for the laptop itself) and can be machine-washed and left on the line to drip dry. That’s more than I can say about those handwash-only real babies. Via Crave. (Read the full post about ‘Laptop backpacks for motherly computer owners’…)

Sprint will be releasing a Novatel 3G modem in the near future that will support the macbook air’s USB port - at least that’s the word that is currently going around. Apparently the US carrier will be launching the yet-unannouced Novatel U680 - an ultra-thin USB modem that will play nice with the MacBook Air’s slot. The U680 supposedly supports Sprint’s faster EVDO Rev. A network and will load drivers automatically for majority of operating systems including Linux, Mac OS X and Windows. It will have an asking price of $250 when released this June on a standalone basis, but if you want to sign up for a 2-year data plan, the price will be reduced to as low as $100. I think the first glance at the Chronoswiss Wristmaster will probably result in you thinking that this is a parallel Nintendo Wii of sorts. Remember Wii jokes that involved two GameCubes being duct-taped together? Well, I guess the same can be said for the Chronoswiss Wristmaster. Hailed to be the first automatic board watch for the wrist, you get a double strap and double displays, with a chronograph on the right while a standard display is located on the left. Well, HTC has already sold two million Touch handsets and it seems they believe they can do just the same with the newly announced Touch Diamond. Except with the Diamond they expect to hit that two million mark within the year and with the handset being released first in June that gives them just about six months to achieve their goal. Sounds a little lofty, but DigiTimes is reporting that Taiwanese mobile carrier CHT has already ordered about 20,000 to 30,000 units, that number combined with the other large carriers across the world it almost seems doable. The Gigabyte M700, was announced back in March, but at the time not much else was known. The only features we were aware of at the time was its 1.2 GHz VIA processor, 7-inch touchscreen display (1024×600 resolution), 1GB RAM (2GB maximum), 40/60GB hard drive, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS, front and rear web cams, and dual ExpressCard slots with Wi-Max support. Fast forward to today and we now know that Gigabyte is pushing the M700 as a mobile entertainment center. The 1.43-pound device will be sporting a digital TV tuner with IPTV support in its base station, allowing it to stream TV content over a network similar to a Slingbox. The premise is to simply connect your TV source to the base station and watch streaming live TV on the tablet. (Read the full post about ‘Gigabyte M700 UMPC to come with IPTV’…)
