A new technology trade show, which claims to be better than CES, will be making its inaugural debut in Orlando, FL at the Orange County Convention Center North/South hall. The show, “Robot, Gizmo & Gadget show”, which will be held for four days, has plans to open in September 2009 during Labor Day weekend. It is expected that the trade show will begin September 4th with the last 1-2 days being open to the public.
The title alone screams unique. Key speakers expected at the conference will include Bill Gates and Michael Dell. The show is expected to feature “all electronics” including e-commerce, robots, consumer electronics and cell phones.

Samsung is pretty adamant on calling its L870’s web browser Safari, which will definitely irk Apple fanboys to no end. Why all the confusion? Well, the handset is widely believed to carry a standard version of the Nokia Mini Map browser, which shares many similarities with Safari’s WebKit rendering engine despite the fact that the phone’s web application is a Symbian Series S60 version of the “Safari browser”, and thus equating it to Nokia software. Hopefully Samsung realizes this discrepancy pretty soon (if they haven’t already and prefer throwing caution to the wind), lest Steve Jobs sics his legal eagles on the Samsung team. BenQ has just launched its latest digital camera offering, and boy can we just say that it sure is slim. In fact this ultra-compact camera, dubbed the T850 may just be the slimmest in the crowd so far at only 14.9mm thick. But no matter how much we convince you that this baby is as sleek as it can get, we know that you would rather know about its features and functionality. Luckily, the T850 delivers a nice little punch that might drive you to consider getting one as soon as it becomes available. The T850 packs good features such as a high 1600 ISO sensitivity, 3x optical zoom, 3-inch TFT LCD, 8.0-megapixel CCD sensor and SD/SDHC media support. Weight loss isn’t exactly one of my major priorities. It’s not that I couldn’t spare a few pounds (or a lot of few pounds, even), it’s just that with so much going on in my life right now, it seems like a I can’t find a spare second to sleep, let alone weigh myself and monitor food intake. Does this sort of mentality remind you of anyone? Health and physical well-being are on an upswing compared to the indulgence of the late-90s and early millennium years. People are starting to get back into their peak condition for health reasons, rather than sex appeal, even though that’s always a plus. But how can you work such a time-swallowing event into your traveling? (Read the full post about ‘Magellan Travel Scale’…)

by Thomas Ricker, posted May 29th 2008 at 5:58AM Whoa, big day in the land of low-cost ultra-portables. First Dell, now Acer in what appear to be the first shots of Acer’s first sub-$500 ultra-portable. The images above were dumped into the forum over at UMPC Portal and show what appears to be an “Aspire One” branding to the right of the touchpad and what could certainly pass as the rumored 8.9-inch display. And although that UI is very un-Microsoft, there’s no denying the Microsoft flag waving back from the keyboard. (Read the full post about ‘First pics of Acer’s Aspire One, the Eee PC’s evil twin?’…)

by Donald Melanson, posted May 29th 2008 at 4:14AM Vstone’s various humanoid robots have already made their presence known in Japan, and it looks like they’re now finally making their way over here with a little help from the folks at Texas-based KumoTek. They’ve just announced their new line of KT-X series bots (seemingly identical to Vstone’s Robovie-X), including the 13-motor KT-X Lite, the 17-motor KT-X, and the 20-motor KT-X Gladiator, all of which are apparently aimed at the educational market and range in price from $990 to $1,490. Like its Vstone coutnerpart, the KT-X measures about 13 inches tall, and is able to be controlled with a standard PS2 wireless controller, although it apparently comes with the added educational benefit of KumoTek’s Robot P.E.T.S. If it’s a Disney mobile phone, it has to be themed around one of its cartoon characters. Wrong! Sharp straightens out the misconception by releasing its stylish DM002SH for Softbank. With a diamond-patterned and textured shell, this Disney phone might actually give some of the designer phones tough competition. Specs include 3G capability, HSDPA support, microSD slot, Bluetooth and Infrared, and a 2MP CMOS Camera with QVGA MPEG4 Recording. Certainly not meant for toddlers, this! Measuring 49×101.5×16.3 mm and weighing just 111gms, the phone fits snugly into your pocket. A dual-display phone, the DM002SH features a 2.6 inch 240×400 Mobile ASV 260K color display as well as an external 0.5 inch monochrome OLED 60×32 display. Guess Dell wants to jump onto the mini UMPC bandwagon as well, with a mini Inspiron (not the official name as there is no announcement from Dell just yet) being the fruit of their labors. There is no word on what operating system will this diminutive computer run on, nor how much it will cost, but it does feature a trio of USB 2.0 ports, a memory card reader, VGA out, and an Ethernet port. Do you think this will be Atom-powered, and just how much internal memory will it hold? I wonder how Asus will innovate itself to stay ahead of the game they started.
