Nextar rolls out “sleek and stylish” T30 PMP

Nextar rolls out “sleek and stylish” T30 PMP
by Donald Melanson, posted Jun 17th 2008 at 6:26PM It looks like those that prefer their gadgets to call as little attention to themselves as possible now have yet another new PMP to consider from Nextar, which has just pulled up its new T30 model from OEM-land (from the looks of it, at least). This one packs a 3.5-inch QVGA display (not a touchscreen), along with 4GB of memory, an SD card slot for expansion, a built-in FM radio, and support for all the basic audio formats, although you’ll have to convert videos to AVIs using the included software. If that sounds like it’ll do, you can apparently pick one one of these up now from a whole host of retailers, including Wal-Mart, for a $100 (or less, it seems). Lenovo IdeaPad U110 Notebook long-term follow-up

Lenovo IdeaPad U110 Notebook long-term follow-up
My time with the Lenovo IdeaPad U110 has come to an end and while I spend my last few hours with the notebook, a number of thoughts came to mind. We don’t get to do as many long-term follow-up posts as I would like so I wanted to put a few thoughts out there. We posted the full review of the U110 a few weeks ago. If you want to get up to speed on the notebook and my findings after using it for the first few weeks, be sure to check it out. - The more I have used the U110, the more I have come to like it. The notebook has a lot of style to it, which initially turned me off, but now and then I appreciated the flashy looks, like when it turned heads at a conference I was attending. Eee PC 901 dismantled, broadband solder points found

Eee PC 901 dismantled, broadband solder points found
by Joshua Fruhlinger, posted Jun 17th 2008 at 2:26PM ASUS’s Eee PC 901 has been unboxed, examined, pictured, tested, and now to end it all, it has been completely dismantled by a curious writer at bit-tech. They didn’t find anything terribly unusual, but highlights include a monitor-diameter 802.11n antenna, the all-important SSD module (not soldered to allow for upgrades), internal fan, an IDE3 slot, and solder points labeled “3GCard” which you can interpret as you wish (we’ll give you two guesses). Finally, they found a mysterious button that doesn’t seem to do much of anything. So there you have it: The Eee PC 901 has officially been pillaged. Classic Spy Camera Munches Cyanide Capsule, Dies At 71 Years Old

Classic Spy Camera Munches Cyanide Capsule, Dies At 71 Years Old
The Minox TLX is set to be quietly retired from service. The unsuspecting subminiature camera will be met on a foggy bridge at dawn, where it will be relieved of its last roll of 8×11mm film and swiftly shot between its dials with an umbrella gun. The reason is, of course, obsolescence. The classic spy cam is no longer miniature — let alone subminiature — compared to the average cellphone, and nobody but collectors are buying them. The last few models off the line will be sold for £400 ($790) instead of the normal £900 ($1770). Rumors of a unit signed by Georgi Markov are unconfirmed. CPR Resuscitation Pad Makes Life Saving Easier

CPR Resuscitation Pad Makes Life Saving Easier
Statistics show that CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) can increase the chances of a victim surviving by up to 50%. That’s five lives saved out of every 10 instances of the process. The problem is that many people, even those who are CPR certified, perform the action inaccurately, sometimes causing even more damage than was present in the first place. But not all is lost, even for those who are unlucky enough to have a possibly fatal heart attack among a crowd with no CPR experience. The CPR-PAD by the aptly named designer Ryan Helps aids the administrator to accurately perform CPR using proper rhythm and hand positioning thanks to its intuitive design and features. Sony Ericsson C905 Cyber-Short 8.1 Megapixel Camera Phone

Sony Ericsson C905 Cyber-Short 8.1 Megapixel Camera Phone
Last week-end, I went to a museum in San Francisco and it’s incredible to see the number of people who snap photos with their cellphones. That’s no surprise if Sony Ericsson is launching a high-end camera-phone like the C905. In short, here’s what’s interesting: 8 Megapixel Camera with xenon flash, GPS, WiFi The camera function has interesting features such as an image stabilizer (digital, I suppose), and after your photoshoot you can upload files to any DLNA device via WiFi, which is a cool idea. To see the full specs, head to the C905 announcement. (Read the full post about ‘Sony Ericsson C905 Cyber-Short 8.1 Megapixel Camera Phone’…)

Get Wii Fit playing World of Warcraft

How do you make all those millions of gamers sitting there playing World of Warcraft (WoW) for hours on end get some exercise? How about a hack for Nintendo’s Wii Fit peripheral that allows you to use it to control your WoW character?

That’s exactly what two researchers at the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence have managed to do as can be seen in the video above.

Matthieu Deru and Simon Bergweiler managed the hack by using a C# application to intercept the Bluetooth communications from the Wii Fit.
