I just learned that the Napkin PC concept that we reported on six months ago has won a Next-Gen PC Design competition. On a related note, I found this Next-Gen PC concept, and I thought it was just as practical, especially for summer. The Pool PC, aka PC of the Swim-Rings, is a waterproof computer that has a small place so you can attach a swim ring. Then all you need to do is lay back in the ring, let your body float, and you are free to check email, surf the web, or anything else you want to do on your computer. It has many features including a GPRS receiver, Bluetooth wireless solutions, finger-touch input, a solar power driven processor, water-cooling system, as well as a magnetic charging interface. For those who suffer from an inferiority complex and want to have the biggest of just about everything, perhaps this Big Time Digital Wall Clock would fit the bill. Measuring 100cm x 50cm in size, you surely won’t miss out on the current time even if you suffer from poor eyesight without the help of glasses. If only it came with an alarm that is equally loud - now that’d be something worth considering for a purchase. The Spore Creature Creator has been available for less than a week, but has already gone down a storm with gamers. Hundreds of thousands of creatures have already been created in the free or paid-for versions of the tool, all in anticipation of the game being released later this year.
Not all those creatures are “safe for work”, however, and the tool has also been the basis for something known as Sporn. You can probably guess that’s short for “Spore porn”.
Giant penises, naked women and a creature that is literally just a pair of breasts walking around have all appeared.

While I am still riding on a slight technology high after all the Surface goodness that I was able to experience last week, lets start showing off some images. The first set is actually really just a few images, it also happens to be one of the images that I mentioned in my previous Part 1 Hands On post. The first of the images is, and the man hidden behind the camera is Eric Havir, the Senior Marketing Manager for the Microsoft Surface and this, although simple was possibly my favorite image from the event. While maybe not the best photograph, it just captured what I took as an important message and that was to have fun. (Read the full post about ‘Gadgetell Hands On: The Microsoft Surface, Part 2′…)

Leading supermarket chain, Aeon Co., Ltd. in Japan is currently mulling over the decision to include electric car charging ports at its supermarkets to help out Japanese automobile manufacturers. This announcement will definitely find automobile execs (in Japan, at least) pleased to know that future commercial electric vehicles like the Mitsubishi i MiEV (seen above) and Subaru R1e are able to juice up while the driver does their weekly grocery shopping. While first generation electric cars might take up to 14 hours for a full charge at home, Aeon hopes to drop that number down to just one hour with a new kind of charger. Isn’t it about time the rest of the world moves on with electric cars as well? (Read the full post about ‘Electric Car Charging Ports’…)

Cell phones have certainly come from a long way since the days where they were used as a(n expensive) means of communication. Today, we find cell phones smart enough to handle basic computing tasks like word processing, e-mail checking and Web browsing, including capturing photos and playing music. Thrrum is a new visual search service that touts the ability to scan just about anything holding text, returning a relevant search result to the user’s phone. Of course, it will need to work with phones that have at least a VGA camera built in. This service is currently in beta mode and is made free to all Sprint subscribers. Sony has recently begun shipping the mylo com2 with a free charging cradle. While its certainly not a must have item, and I am not sure it would push me over the edge and make me run out to purchase a mylo, its always a nice deal when you are getting a $29.99 item for free. A dock or charging cradle is one accessory that I consider a must have for most gadgets. It looks much nicer sitting on the desk, it helps to keep your device from getting bumped and knocked to the floor and is much easier to stick your device in the dock or cradle as opposed to fiddling with a loose wire. Sony has not made any mention of whether this is a permanent or just a limited time offer, but if you were already considering a mylo purchase, this sounds like as good a time as ever to make that purchase.
