Sony Mylo COM-2 get software update; adds video recording, 16GB memory card support, more
Coming just a few months after the last software update for the Mylo COM-2, Sony has just released yet another update. This brings the version up to 1.201 and should be well worth the time it takes to update. The new version of software offers a few big items which include support for video recording and the ability to support Memory Stick Duo memory cards up to 16GB in size. In addition the update also includes some other notable items which include: Adds a new menu option for easier photo and video uploading Provides an “Optimize” option in Task Manager for system memory Adds a function to format Memory Stick Duo media Adds the ability to display thumbnail images in the Game menu Improves Flash playback of YouTube videos Coming in at just about 60MB, the update is slightly large, but like I mentioned it seems to be a worthwhile update. Tesla announces plans for sub-$60K Model S sport-sedan

Tesla Motors made a big splash last year, with the introduction of their Roadster model. The car is 100% electric and can go from 0-60 in 3.9 seconds. That’s a big deal. Throw in the fact that the Roadster is also an attractive convertible, and you can see why Tesla’s stock just keeps rising and rising. Unfortunately, the starting price is US$109,000 with a lot of add-on costs for the less humble among us.

The Roadster is manufactured in California, so it seemed only natural that when announcing their plans for a new model, they would invite Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to make the announcement for them.

Is ViewSonic’s New 26″ Display Too Cheap to be Good?

ViewSonic has announced a new monster sized 26″ lcd monitor, and it’s cheap enough to make us worry. The $530 display will show 1080p images (the resolution is 1920×1200 pixels), offers a contrast ratio of 6000:1 and has HDMI, VGA and DVI inputs.

The problem? I no longer trust cheap monitors. I bought a cheap-o 22″ Acer AL2218W a few months ago, and it’s a piece of junk. Out of the box I had a bright blue stuck pixel, the fluorescent backlight bleeds white and makes the corners glow and the picture, next to that of my MacBook, is dull and flat. This isn’t to knock Acer. It’s a complaint about cheap lcd panels.

And the cheap ViewSonic adds in another worry: built in, 2.5 watt speakers.

Sport In-Ear MP3 Player

Sport In-Ear MP3 Player
MP3 Players in the form of sunglasses aren’t anything new. I’ve seen them years ago on various brands. Unfortunately, a lot of them seem to be quite expensive for the common folk. An alternative to them is the Sport In-Ear MP3 Player. This more affordable alternative takes on a behind the head form factor, so inconspicuous you could rock one while strolling the beach without anyone noticing what it is. With a 1GB storage capacity, the player which has a plug-and-play feature supports MP3, WAV, and WMA files. It has an integrated rechargeable lithium-ion battery which could deliver 8 hours of playback when fully-charged and USB 2.0 connectivity. (Read the full post about ‘Sport In-Ear MP3 Player’…)

J Allard, CXO, surfaces at Microsoft C-level

J Allard, CXO, surfaces at Microsoft C-level
by Thomas Ricker, posted Jul 1st 2008 at 5:28AMJ Allard, previously of Veep stature, has been elevated to the position of CXO (Chief eXperience Officer) and CTO of Microsoft’s Entertainment and Devices Division. That puts the man synonymous with the Zune, Xbox, and once questionable, 80’s style in charge of “the technical architecture and user experiences related to products and services of the Entertainment and Devices (E&D) division.” He’s also cracking the whip on the E&D’s “incubation team” responsible for scouting out new opportunities for the division. You know, like the Zune Phone, Xbox 360 with Blu-ray, and Microsoft Surface Sphere. Thus making him the most important man inside Microsoft… (Read the full post about ‘J Allard, CXO, surfaces at Microsoft C-level’…)

Warner Music joins Nokia’s Comes With Music download program

Warner Music joins Nokia’s Comes With Music download program
by Joshua Fruhlinger, posted Jul 1st 2008 at 2:07AMThe latest label following BMG to join Nokia’s Comes With Music service bandwagon is none other than Warner Music Group. The third-largest label joins the powerful cadre of labels on the service, which as of this posting lacks only EMI for a full major label lineup. As a reminder, the service allows you to download music for 12 months and then keep it as long as you own the device or transfer to a PC. Now, of course, we just need to wait for the devices to roll out. (Read the full post about ‘Warner Music joins Nokia’s Comes With Music download program’…)

Nokia E71 Review - BoyGeniusReport

BoyGeniusReport reviews the Nokia E71 and writes, “We’re at the end of the review, but by now, you’ve seen how impressed we are with the phone. It takes a lot to get us excited but the E71 has done it. This thing, in our opinion, is the best phone Nokia has made to date. That’s a very bold statement, we know. But this really is going to be the phone to beat by a lot of manufacturers. From the design, to the specs, to the size, the feel — it has the entire package. It’s not for everyone, though. Some people prefer a straight up phone like a flip phone, but in terms of a smartphone with a QWERTY keyboard, this takes the cake. It is just striking compared to the shit device the E61 was.
