Belkin unveils the GoStudio iPod recording dock

Belkin unveils the GoStudio iPod recording dock
by Nilay Patel, posted Jul 10th 2008 at 10:19AM Belkin’s not letting a little thing like the launch of the iphone 3G slow it down this morning — in addition to all that wireless gear, it’s even got the stones to throw down an ipod accessory, which is a little funny. The GoStudio recorder is a full-featured recording dock for the iPod 5G, classic, and 2G and 3G nanos, which allows you to record 16-bit 44.1kHz audio directly from two built-in stereo mics or quarter-inch, XLR, and minijack inputs, and dump it all into iTunes when you’re done. The $119 box isn’t the sexiest thing we’ve ever seen, but if you’re a dedicated podcaster or just suffer from delusions of being the next Martin Hannett, it’s probably worth a look.Read PermalinkEmail this28 Comm (Read the full post about ‘Belkin unveils the GoStudio iPod recording dock’…)

Belkin’s FlyWire does 1080P without wires

Belkin’s FlyWire does 1080P without wires
by Joshua Fruhlinger, posted Jul 10th 2008 at 9:38AM We’ve all dreamed of wire clutter-free home theaters for years (admit it), and Belkin is about to make things a lot easier with the FlyWire. The new wireless transmitter and receiver can send 1080p video over a 5GHz band. Belkin promises little to no interference and no latency even for you gamers. As for connections, we’re looking at three HDMI ins, two component ins, one composite, and one HDMI out. Remote control is done via IR, which should be welcome news to those of you with universal remotes. FlyWire will come in two packages: The FlyWire AV69003 at $999.99 is meant for a whole-home solution with an IR backchannel for multi-room control, while the FlyWire R1 AV69000 at $699.99 is meant for a single room without the IR backchannel. Climbing a communications tower is the most dangerous job

Next time you make a mobile call there’s a group of individuals you should thank. They are the people who have to climb communication and mobile phone towers to complete installs or do maintenance. As a RCR Wireless News article reports, tower climbing is the deadliest job in the U.S., according to the head of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Edwin Foulke Jr.

Foulke states that many fatalities occur during a tower’s erection, retrofitting or dismantling, and tend to be due to climbers not being tied to a safe anchorage point or faulty personal protection equipment.

Microsoft Patch Tuesday not a happy one for ZoneAlarm users

Microsoft’s latest Patch Tuesday has just been and gone, but its left a sour taste in the mouths of ZoneAlarm users. That’s because one of the 4 updates released confused ZoneAlarm’s firewall meaning anyone running it and installing the patch no longer had Internet access.

The specific patch that caused the problem is MS08-037, which fixed vulnerabilities in the Windows Domain Name System (DNS) that allowed spoofing to occur. For some reason the update meant that ZoneAlarm no longer recognised Windows accessing the Internet as a safe thing to do, so blocked it.

There are 3 workarounds ZoneAlarm has detailed that include setting the firewall to medium security, uninstalling the patch, or adding your DNS servers to the trusted zone of the application.

GM to build world’s largest rooftop solar station in Spain

GM to build world’s largest rooftop solar station in Spain
GM has chosen its factory in northeastern Spain to be a suitable location for rooftop solar panel installation. The predicted 10-megawatt solar station will be used to supply the plant with most of its power needs, thereby taking the title as the largest rooftop solar station in the world. To get an idea of the scale of this thing, imagine being able to power 4,600 households each year with a constant source of electricity. Now that must be big. How big you ask? GM plans to blanket about 2,000,000 square feet with about 85,000 panels by the end of September. Though, this is nothing for GM. They currently own the two largest solar panel installations in the United States and don’t plan on stopping anytime soon.
