by Chris Ziegler, posted Jul 12th 2008 at 3:52PM So many of you are probably still in your jammies, reveling in the afterglow of yesterday’s purchase, repeatedly opening Maps on your glossy new iphone 3G and watching in exaggerated wonderment as your location is determined with frightening speed and accuracy. Others might be standing in a line snaking hundreds of bodies long into your friendly local Apple Store, reading this post from the comfort of your Motorola RAZR V3 and realizing that these are some of the last moments you’ll be using a physical keypad. Still others are bemused by the fuss — but whatever your stance on the phone, it’s pretty hard to ignore the buzz that’s floating around in the aftermath of day zero. Duct tape is really an amazing thing. It’s capable of doing, creating, or fixing just about anything. Don’t believe me? Ask all the ladies out there with duct tape engagement rings, or all of the business men wearing duct tape suits. They’ll tell you how it is.
A man must always have some duct tape at hand. People! Listen to me! Duct tape is a miracle of innovation. There’s even books published about the magic you can create with the household object. That’s why this Duct Tape Dispensing Belt Clip is so damn cool.
This heavy-duty dispenser is sure to save as many projects you have that are in need of a good fixing.
by Paul Miller, posted Jul 12th 2008 at 2:16PM If you hadn’t heard, hundreds of people were turned away from Apple Stores last night, iphone 3G-less. However, being gluttons for punishment — and having nothing to do over the weekend — they’ve returned in droves to Apple Stores, with reports of lines longer than 200 people stretching out from The Cube, Apple Store Chicago (pictured) and even a store in Durham, NC. Apple offered up vouchers last night, at least at some stores, to anyone still waiting in line, so those folks can show up whenever and jump the line for a phone — about 30 of them are lined up at The Cube currently. Gadgetell exclusive: last night I was contacted by a couple of developers, each shut out of the beta program. Both, I might add, have fantastic application ideas but Apple hadn’t even looked at thier app until yesterday. Or so it seemed. Both developers got notification they were accepted into the program. Word is a couple of weeks and wham, bam, boom - they are in the App Store. As I’ve said before, I found the launch of the App Store a little underwhelming but do believe it will snowball into some amazing Apps for us to enjoy. How about you, got an app you can’t live without now? I also got to thinking this morning, Apple just created a way for them to add productivity (Read the full post about ‘Apple lets flood gates open: more iPhone App developers accepted’…)
NTT DoCoMo has just released its new FOMA SH706i handset, and what makes this different from what you’ve seen so far in the past is the Symbian operating system. This new handset will begin shipping in Japan today, and chances are it won’t function outside of the Land of the Rising Sun. Just in case the FOMA SH706i sounds familiar to certain quarters, that’s because a whole lot of cell phone from Japan do share similar sounding model numbers in addition to the insane amount of features found within. Currently, 3G phones in Japan that are powered by Symbian’s operating system are manufactured by Fujitsu, Mitsubishi Electric, Motorola, Nokia, Sharp, and Sony Ericsson. by Paul Miller, posted Jul 12th 2008 at 3:04PM Well, that was quick. We mentioned Ion’s fancy drum kit yesterday, which will be released around when Rock Band 2 ships, but works with both Rock Band games, and now we’ve got a price and a press shot of the Drum Rocker. The $300 set has high-durability pads, which are supposed to play quiet and will register the velocity of your hits, but the real win is the re-configurability of the whole set — much like a for-realises electronic drum kit. We’re also really digging the metal-reinforced kick pedal, which seems a major improvement over the junky, difficult pedal packaged with the original game. Only $300? Don’t worry, this quest has a happy ending, with the new 3G iphone not only in hand but activated. As anyone with an iPhone noticed, the Apple servers crashed from all the new customers trying to activate their new phones and leaving old iPhone users in limbo, frozen trying to download the 2.0 upgrade which adds great new features and services to older versions of the iPhone (more on that later from Mia.) Add to that over 500 new apps and it’s like you’ve got a new phone. (Pictured below, the new tap-and-tilt game, Super Monkey Ball.) A tech fiend friend of mine, Kevin, in Manhattan Beach, CA. tell this story: I got to the AT&T store at 5:30, thinking I would be first in line. Boy was I wrong. So the iPhone 3G has been making big news worldwide a good 24 hours ago, and one of the more interesting aspects would be the Apple App Store which enables users to purchase media or applications of their choice directly from the iPhone 3G. There are tons of applications and software available, and among them is Big Canvas PhotoShare.
