Lenovo has finally (officially) launched the world’s first dual-screen laptop, the ThinkPad W700ds, putting some of the mystery around it to rest. The limelight is obviously on the two screens – the main display being 17-inches, with a second 10-inches slide-out screen. And no, the second screen doesn’t weigh down badly on the laptop – just expect the ThinkPad W700ds to be half an inch thicker than its predecessor W700. The spring-loaded secondary display is housed within a “pocket door” configuration and can be angled upto 30-degrees.
The other specs include a NVIDIA Quadro FX 3700M graphics card, 8GB RAM, WiFi, support for Dual-Link DVI, Display Port and VGA, a 7-in-1 multicard reader and five USB ports.

About six months ago, we reported that Toyota was planning on putting solar panels on the Prius to power the air-conditioner. It has been recently been released that the famed Japanese motor company plans to release a car that is completely solar-powered. As you can see on the photo, the solar panels are on the roof like solar panels of a house. This is only one way the car gets its power, as the company wants to supplement power by somehow attaching the car to the solar panels on the roofs of homes. This way, a car can be powered in a garage or parked outside. Toyota is actually quite ahead of the solar power game. (Read the full post about ‘Toyota’s Solar-powered Car’…)

PCPerspective believes that Apple is preparing a 28″ iMac that would be powered by a Corei7, the latest processor from Intel (read our Corei7 review). That’s kind of new and somewhat exciting (for the sheer size of the display). To be clear, it seems that three iMac will have a NVIDIA chipset with integrated graphics, but the Corei7 version will run use Intel’s X58 chipset as NVIDIA doesn’t have a product to cover that segment yet.
We already said many times that upcoming Apple computers will be powered by NVIDIA from top to bottom. We know that Snow Leopard, the next Mac OS, will use GPUs heavily and we suspect that this is the long term reasoning for that move.

It seems like I’ve been obsessed with owning a Beetle since birth and therefore love all things Beetle themed. I’ve ran into several other like me and this USB hub is proof that there are plenty of us out there. For the Beetle obsessed, this is just one more random Beetle inspired accessory to own. Thankfully, there never seems to be a shortage of these quirky little extras. Sadly these look more like the newer Beetles than the old. Which even owning one of the newer Beetles, I still prefer the classic ones. So this USB port gets a couple less points, but it’s still cute. White balance, the bane of digital photography. Or is it? The answer is mixed, just like the troubled lighting conditions it addresses. If you shoot with a pocket camera that records jpegs, then you should indeed be paying attention to the color of the light falling onto the scene, as it is tricky to adjust the balance afterwards. But if you actually know about white balance, then you’ll probably have a DSLR. And if you have a DSLR, you should be shooting in the RAW format, in which case the color temperature of the lighting can be easily and quickly fixed in post with no loss in quality. This is why the White Balance Lens Cap is getting this week’s Pointless Gadget Award. (Read the full post about ‘White-Balance Lens Cap. Possibly Pointless?’…)

If you’re part of the working class who grind out a living each day, do you ever stop and wonder whether the super rich celebrities and personalities of the world live on a totally different planet, economic recession or not? Soccer supperstar David Beckham’s love for collecting exotic cars is no secret, and it seems as though his son Brooklyn is a chip off the old block. After all, how many kids in this world are able to boast that they have a £50,000 Porsche to drive around? This handcrafted toy is powered by a diesel engine (wonder what the mileage is like) and has been customized to fit just a single person - guess Brooklyn can’t go picking up a Spice Girl anytime soon as she won’t have a place to sit (other than on his lap).
